If we were having coffee, I’d show up alone (gasp) and probably on time! Don has been working furiously the past couple weeks on some big group projects, but today he had some time off and encouraged me to get out of the house alone.
If we were having coffee, I’d have so many stories to tell you about making new friends, attending social events, and enjoying the holidays. I’ve attended a couple parties and have met new friends. I’m on the line as far as introvert/extrovert goes, and these past couple weeks the extroverted side has won out – I don’t hate it! I have already bragged on my neighbors on social media, but I have so much fun with the two of them. We walked to a party down the block (so that we could drink responsibly), and then decided to use the double stroller to push all our stuff. Three women, walking down the street at 10:30pm, pushing an empty stroller and using the cupholders for their wine…that’s a sight!
If we were having coffee, I’d brag that I had my Christmas shopping done on October 31st, and feel so stress-free this holiday season! We did all the decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving, and I was able to order my cards from Walgreens and pick them up the SAME DAY, so the Monday after Thanksgiving, all our Christmas cards were in the mail. I love being able to enjoy the true spirit of Christmas, without stressing about gifts/cards/etc.
If we were having coffee, I’d show you way too many pictures on my phone of my children. Since the cost of childcare is so high, they’ve all been home with me most days (E goes for a few hours on Monday), and it’s going a lot better than I had anticipated. I do miss having some “me” time during the day, but thankfully I get a few hours at night. Elizabeth is enrolled in preschool starting in January, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she will learn!
If we were having coffee, I’d confess that I’m having a lot of self doubt about my IronMan in August. I went for a run yesterday at the Y and only made it 1.4 miles before I had to walk. It was a slow run (averaging 12 min/mile) and was really discouraging. All of a sudden I’m thinking – what have I gotten myself into? I know I still have 10 months to get ready and my only goal is to finish in the 8-hour cutoff, but I’m still fighting with my mind. I’d definitely ask you for some advice, encouragement, and tips.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about Don’s newest obsession – Keva Planks. We went to the Discovery Museum in Acton, MA last weekend and he had a total blast building with them. The Discovery Museum is free for military, has a ton of awesome exhibits that focus on imagination, exploration, and STEM. I ran around with Elizabeth while Don and the boys played in the building area. The boys hung out with the softer bricks while their dad impressed all the school-aged kids with his creations.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that my kindness streak is going well. I’m making a conscious effort to be kind with my words and actions. Being kind doesn’t take a huge effort, and it is FREE!
If we were having coffee, I’d ask you how you’re doing during this holiday season? I’d love to hear what’s new with you!
